Welcome from the ӰԺ Anesthesiology Chief Residents

My name is Mackenzie McGrath, and I am one of the 2024-2025 Anesthesiology Chief Residents (along with Megan Vylonis and Paul Otto). I’m delighted that you are here; thank you for your interest in our residency program!

Our residents become highly competent clinicians by taking care of a large volume of high-acuity patients. Our hospital has a wide catchment area as we are the primary adult and pediatric level 1 trauma center in southeastern Wisconsin. We provide care for patients undergoing operations in all surgical specialties, including complex neurosurgery, major trauma, high-risk obstetrics, complex pediatrics, liver/kidney transplant, heart transplant, and ECMO/mechanical cardiac support. For those interested in additional training after residency, ӰԺ hosts fellowship programs in all anesthesiology subspecialties. Our residents also consistently match into competitive fellowship programs nationally. ӰԺ graduates are heavily recruited for jobs in the Milwaukee area, the Midwest, and across the country as our program has a reputation for producing well-prepared and highly competent consultant anesthesiologists.

Milwaukee is an exciting city with tons to offer -- from our sports teams (Go Bucks!) to a vibrant food and nightlife scene. There is truly something here for everyone! Milwaukee has all the benefits of a large city, yet still has an excellent cost of living with minimal traffic. With its proximity to Lake Michigan, summers in Milwaukee are some of the best in the country. Many of our residents live in the downtown area with easy access to concerts and music festivals, including Summerfest. Milwaukee is also home to many breweries and museums, which serve as major attractions to the area.

I hope this introduction helps give you a view into all that ӰԺ has to offer. We are proud to represent our program, and we look forward to meeting you!

Sincerely,

Mackenzie McGrath, MD
Paul Otto, MD
Megan Vylonis, DO
