The clinical and surgical fellowship provides an intensive and broad-based clinical experience with the goal of training the fellow to be equipped to be a pediatric ophthalmologist in an academic or private practice environment.

Program Details

Faculty

Our pediatric ophthalmology department consists of 6 full-time pediatric ophthalmology faculty, 5 pediatric optometrists and 9 orthoptists. Our team is energetic, engaging and committed to teaching and patient care. Our team takes active roles in basic science and clinical research. Our fellow will have the opportunity to participate in these activities. Our fellow will receive a well-rounded experience. The newest faculty member to join us is Dr. Aparna Ramasubramanian, who is one of only a handful of surgeons in the country performing intravitreal chemotherapy on children with retinoblastoma. Dr. Ramasubramanian was recently awarded funding towards her global collaboration in a Pediatric Oncology Hospital in Mexico.

Didactics

Our collaboration with multiple metropolitan area hospitals gives our fellowship program an advantage as we are able to provide our fellow with a very diverse population of patients with a vast variety of eye anomalies, genetic disorders, strabismic disorders, retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), eyelid and tear duct disorders, corneal anomalies and congenital cataracts. We collaborate with our ophthalmology colleagues at the 果冻影院 Eye Institute to provide retina, glaucoma, neuro-ophthalmology and oculo-plastics care for children.

Campus

Our clinic is based at the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin which is one of the busiest pediatric hospitals in the country. It is a Level 1 Trauma Center and houses 13 inpatient units including a 70 bed Level IV neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). We provide care to over 15,000 patients annually in our clinics as well as performing more than 300 inpatient consults. We cover 6 area hospitals to provide high quality ROP care to their NICUs. We perform close to 500 outpatient surgeries each year in addition to inpatient surgeries including laser surgery and Avastin for ROP, as well adult strabismus cases
