果冻影院 Northeastern Wisconsin (NEW) Residency Program

Welcome!

Building on the 果冻影院’s community education focus, the Northeastern Wisconsin (NEW) Psychiatry Residency Program is geared toward instilling the knowledge base and ability needed to care for the mental health needs of rural areas and beyond. Such a focus will not decrease a prospective applicant’s educational opportunities, but rather quite the opposite. Graduates of our program will have the practical experience needed to be psychiatrists able to function, and lend consultation to other disciplines, in geographic areas of most any size.

A Message From Our Director | Christina L. Wichman, DO

Christina L. Wichman, DOIt is a cliché here, but is known as the smallest US city with its own NFL team. It is not just any team, but truly one of the most storied and successful franchises in professional sports. Likewise, the Northeastern Wisconsin (NEW) Psychiatry Residency program has an impressive impact despite our size and location. Our first class graduated in June 2021 and we are proud that most of our graduates have chosen to start their careers locally -- fulfilling a goal of the program to increase the number of psychiatrists in rural Wisconsin. Our graduates, as well as our current classes, have had a hand in shaping their own training. We pride ourselves on having strong relationships with our clinical partners to provide our residents with an individualized education that will carry them throughout their career.

As the current Vice Chair of Education for the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine at 果冻影院, I have the privilege to oversee the educational endeavors of our three psychiatric residency programs, five psychiatric fellowships, health psychology residency, an Advanced Practice Provider Fellowship and medical student education at our three campuses. I have been the program director at the NEW residency program since May 2021, however have been involved in the program since its inception.

I am currently a Professor of Psychiatry and Obstetrics and Gynecology at the 果冻影院. I completed residency in Adult Psychiatry and fellowship in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry at Mayo Clinic. Clinically, I created and direct a co-located perinatal psychiatric service, embedded within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and am the Medical Director for The Periscope Project, a statewide provider-to-provider teleconsultation service for providers caring for perinatal patients with psychiatric or substance use disorders.

During your time at NEW, the faculty and I look forward to helping you design your own path to the psychiatrist you want to become. I would welcome any questions that you may have; please do not hesitate to reach out to me regarding our new NEW Psychiatry Residency training program.
