ӰԺ Clinical Psychology Fellowship

Fellowship in Trauma & Health Psychology
ӰԺ
Department of Surgery, Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery

The ӰԺ (ӰԺ) and Froedtert Hospital, Department of Surgery is offering a two-year full-time trauma and health psychology clinical and research fellowship. Froedtert Hospital/MCW is a not-for-profit 500+ bed academic hospital in Milwaukee, WI that serves individuals across the adult age span. The goal of this program is to provide the fellow with experiential clinical and research training focused on developing advanced competencies in trauma and health psychology that will prepare them for independent practice in a medical setting and trauma center.

Clinically, the fellowship is focused on providing inpatient and outpatient care to injured trauma survivors receiving surgical intervention at a level 1 trauma center and acute care surgery patients receiving emergency procedures for critical illness. The most common patient populations served include those with internal and orthopedic injuries, traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, limb amputations, polytrauma, and various other conditions and injuries, in addition to patients with emergent non-injury medical conditions. The fellow will be involved in clinical training opportunities in both in-patient and out-patient settings as a member of a dynamic multidisciplinary team which includes surgeons, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, social workers, as well as physical and occupational therapists. The psychology service itself includes two supervising faculty psychologists, an intern (as a part of a new APA-accredited health psychology internship across Froedtert Hospital/MCW), and graduate students acquiring external training for their doctoral programs. The fellow will also be afforded the opportunity to gain experience in supervising these graduate students and interns under the supervision of licensed faculty.

In addition to this robust clinical training, the fellowship also involves participation in the Milwaukee Trauma Outcomes Project, a research collaborative that includes researchers in health psychology, trauma, clinical and translational neuroscience, trauma surgery, and emergency medicine. As part of this research group, the fellow will have the opportunity to design and implement their own research project. Further, the fellow will supervise the clinical training of research associates in the administration of structured clinical interviews and ensure standardized administration in an ongoing multi-institutional validation study. Beyond these opportunities, the fellow will be expected to contribute to manuscript development with ongoing and completed research projects as well as present research findings at local and national conferences. As part of this expectation, the fellow will receive financial support for research dissemination and professional development activities. Faculty researchers include Terri deRoon-Cassini, PhD (ӰԺ), Christine Larson, PhD (University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee), and Sadie Larsen, PhD (ӰԺ and the Milwaukee VA). Additionally, ӰԺ offers excellent benefits and health insurance coverage.

Eligible candidates must be US citizens who have obtained a PhD or PsyD in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA accredited institution and who have completed an APA accredited internship.
