ӰԺ Trauma/Acute Care Surgery Research Fellowship

Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery
Department of Surgery
ӰԺ/Froedtert Trauma Center
Milwaukee, Wisconsin

The ӰԺ-Froedtert Hospital established a funded Trauma/Acute Care Surgery Research Fellowship within the Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery. The program began July 2017 and spans two years. It provides opportunities for fellows to explore a variety of trauma/acute care surgery questions while learning how to design, conduct, analyze, present and publish research. The group has a variety of research interests and can be tailored to the interests of the fellow. The division/department provides a strong research infrastructure that includes biostatistical support, grant management, and mentorship. We are looking for dynamic, motivated, and intellectually curious individuals for this program. In order to qualify you must be a categorical general surgery resident in good standing in U.S. or Canadian programs. International medical graduates are also encouraged to apply but must have a medical degree and speak fluent English. Although USMLE is not required for international graduates it is recommended for those who intend on applying for a U.S. residency at the completion of the fellowship.

ӰԺ/Froedtert Hospital is the sole Level I trauma center in Milwaukee which also serves all of eastern Wisconsin. The trauma service admits over 3000 traumas per year with 20% penetrating trauma. In addition to a busy trauma service, the team handles all the Emergency General Surgery and staffs the Trauma/SICU. Although the fellow would not have any clinical responsibilities, they will have access to all the clinical educational programming/rounds/conferences of the trauma center. At the conclusion of the fellowship, the fellow will have a firm grasp of how to conduct research, a portfolio of presentations and publications, and a deeper understanding of trauma/acute care surgery.

To apply please submit:

  1. Attached application (PDF) with recent photo
  2. Letter of intent (describing your specific reasons and goals for the fellowship)
  3. A detailed and chronologically ordered curriculum vitae
  4. Two letters of recommendation.
