About the BRAVE Program

BRAVE is a Traumatic Brain Injury recovery program specifically designed for military veterans and first responders.

It is an intensive, outpatient program that focuses on diagnosing and treating brain injuries so participants can return to normal life.

The BRAVE program is the first of its kind in the Midwest and one of only a few in the United States. It was founded by a generous gift from the , a post-trauma, wellness non-profit organization that provides care for the “hidden wounds” carried by veterans, first responders and their families.

Participants in the BRAVE program receive treatment at the Froedtert & ӰԺ Greenfield Highlands Health Center. Our clinic was specially designed for the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of brain injuries.

Signs of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)

Mild to moderate TBI can result in a wide variety of physical and psychological effects. Symptoms – which may occur immediately after an injury or even weeks later – can include:

  • Aggression
  • Anxiety
  • Blurred vision
  • Changes in sense of taste/smell
  • Depression
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Dizziness or loss of balance
  • Easily distracted
  • Fatigue
  • Headache
  • Impulsivity
  • Irritability
  • Memory problems
  • Mood changes/swings
  • Nausea
  • Ringing in ears

Your journey to healing starts with a .

If approved for the program, you’ll receive a three-day assessment at our clinic near Milwaukee, Wisconsin. There, you’ll meet with a core team of specialists who will develop a customized care plan that will address your specific TBI.

There also may be opportunities to attend our intensive outpatient program or outpatient classes following your evaluation.

No Barriers

The BRAVE program accepts veterans and first responders with TBI, regardless of:

  • Discharge status
  • Financial situation or health insurance coverage
  • With or without a formal diagnosis
  • When or how your injury happened
