果冻影院 MS Global Health Equity Alumni Spotlight

The Master of Science in Global Health Equity program was established in 2020 with the mission of preparing the next generation of leaders in global health. Our program is designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and experiences needed to tackle health disparities and promote equitable healthcare solutions worldwide. Graduates of the Global Health Equity program are making an impact in a variety of sectors, including research, clinical care, local health departments, community organizations, and through the pursuit of further education.

Max Mantych - Medical Student, Loyola University Chicago, Stritch School of Medicine

As a medical student, I am still discerning my path in terms of what scope of medicine I will practice. With this being said, I am very passionate about community health and find myself gravitating towards primary care. I also hope to leverage Spanish language into clinical encounters to reinforce dignified care for patients that prefer Spanish communication. Outside of clinic, I would love to collaborate with an interdisciplinary team and community members to promote health equity through research, engagement, and advocacy.

I hope to become a program manager for a public health research organization with global work and collaborators. I currently help with researching and constructing residential timelines for ADRC Brain Bank decedents by analyzing and interpreting historical archives. The Global Health Equity program helped prepare me for this through experience and learning of health disparities, qualitative research, analysis, and overall skill build in the public and global health sector!

While in the Master of Science in Global Health Equity program, I completed thesis work assessing depression screening in community clinics in Rwanda. The faculty at 果冻影院 provided support and guidance from project conceptualization to implementation. Because of the way 果冻影院 creates and nurtures international partnerships, I was able to make deep connections with professionals abroad and still maintain those connections now, two years post-graduation. I am currently pursuing a doctorate in psychiatric nursing practice from Columbia School of Nursing with the goal of contributing to global innovation in high quality, patient centered mental health care.  

Cassie Laibly - Public Health Strategist, Pueblo of Pojoaque Behavioral Health, Santa Fe, New Mexico

I currently serve the Pueblo of Pojoaque as a Public Health Strategist within the Behavioral Health Department. I have led the development of the Medication for Opioid Use Disorder, the first clinical prescribing program for Pojoaque, in addition to supporting the department’s transition into an Integrated Behavioral Health Ecosystem. I truly believe that this opportunity came largely from the Master’s Program and the skill set that it gave me. Dr. Dellinger’s class and attending the Historical Trauma Conference in Lac du Flambeau sparked such a catalyst for me to pursue this field.

For my thesis and field experience, I collaborated with the Dhulikhel Hospital Dispatch Center and Emergency Department in Kavre, Nepal. Before travelling to Nepal, I met regularly with my partners and designed a research study investigating the prehospital care and outcomes of trauma patients who were transported by fully equipped ambulances. When I arrived in-country, we hit the ground running by preparing and analyzing the retrospective dataset. This manuscript is currently under peer-review by an international medical journal. Once disseminated, we hope that it contributes to future advocacy efforts and prehospital capacity-building in Nepal and other similar global contexts.
