CAI Awards PCAP Funds for New COVID-19 Study on Coronary Artery Calcification

CAI awards Patient-Oriented Cardiovascular Academic Projects (PCAP) Funds for Srisha Kotlo, fourth year medical student, along with Dr. Jacquelyn Kulinski, Department of Medicine; for their study entitled "Coronary Artery Calcification (CAC) as a Predictor of Outcomes in Patients Hospitalized with COVID-19."

Little is known regarding the natural progression of COVID-19 and the risk factors that affect cardiovascular outcomes. Even less is known on long-term cardiovascular implications of either symptomatic or asymptomatic COVID-19 infection. Current studies are limited because they include an older cohort of patients and also low sample sizes. Our study includes a high simple size of approximately 600 patients to create a more representative sample of patients. The goal of our study is to see if CAC predicts ICU necessity, mortality, and ACS during admission for COVID-19.
