果冻影院 Represented at Annual CleanMed National Conference

Five faculty and staff representing 果冻影院, Froedtert Hospital, and Children’s Wisconsin participated in the CleanMed annual meeting in Salt Lake City from May 21 – 23. Hosted by Practice Greenhealth and Healthcare Without Harm, CleanMed is the premier national conference for leaders in health care sustainability and is a platform for health care leaders to convene, collaborate, and conduct societal transformation for individual, community, and planetary health.

The conference drew a diverse array of over 800 attendees including over 100 clinicians with an interest in climate action who have primary roles as healthcare providers, sustainability or waste managers, facilities and operations staff, and supply chain managers from hospitals across the world. Plenary discussions engaged attendees on eco-anxiety and the necessity for the health sector to advance its decarbonization efforts as well as specific examples of climate resilience and equity initiatives from individual institutions and local community partnerships.

Concurrent sessions covered a breadth of topics to take climate action across mission areas. Sessions discussed sustainability efforts as community benefit activities; carbon emissions related to anesthetic gases and medical device procurement, use, and reprocessing; heat impacts on health in low-temperature regions; and patient perspectives and values of sustainable practices in healthcare.

Faculty and staff who attended CleanMed will meet to debrief on highlights from the conference and discuss possible next steps for climate action on the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center campus on June 12 at 10 a.m.
