CARE Consortium Receives the 2021 Outstanding Research Accomplishment Award from the Military Health System Research Symposium
Milwaukee, Oct. 5, 2021 – The Concussion Assessment, Research and Education (CARE) Consortium has received the 2021 Outstanding Research Accomplishment/Team/Academia/Industry award from the Military Health System Research Symposium (MHSRS).
CARE principal investigators, including co-principal investigator Dr. Michael McCrea, professor of neurosurgery, ӰԺ, accepted the award last month. The consortium team was recognized for their work in uncovering diagnostic and prognostic indicators for traumatic brain injury, making a significant impact in the field and for the Warfighter.
The MHSRS gathers medical professionals, researchers, and military providers to discuss health care initiatives and scientific advancements specific to the U.S. Department of Defense, especially focusing on the unique medical needs of the Warfighter. The associated awards honor high-impact contributions made by the various teams, institutions, industries, and individuals to military health.
“At large, CARE is committed to providing infrastructure and scientific expertise to study concussion, not only relating to military, but to sports medicine as well” said McCrea. “Our group is focused on gaining a better understanding of the neurobiopsychosocial nature of concussive injury and recovery in order to enhance the safety and health of student-athletes, service members, youth sports participants, and the broader public.”
The CARE Consortium was established by the U.S. DoD and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). In addition to McCrea, the consortium is comprised of several principal investigators including Dr. Thomas McAllister, Indiana University, Dr. Steve Broglio, University of Michigan, and Dr. Paul Pasquina, Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, along with the CARE Consortium Site PIs.
