About Our Programs

The educational goal of the Collaborative for Healthcare Delivery Science (CHDS) is to cultivate the next generation of clinician-researchers. The CHDS Educational Programs provide an instructional framework for trainees, starting with foundational knowledge for summer medical students and progressing to applied, independent healthcare delivery projects for healthcare delivery science fellows. We expect learners to develop projects that focus on the care patients receive, that seek to improve safety, quality, and/or patient experience, and that will improve patient outcomes for the same or lower cost.

Scholars Program

The one-year CHDS mentored Scholars program begins July 1 and extends through the following June 30. Scholars will lead their own project(s) and may also join project teams led by CHDS faculty. Through these experiential activities and accompanying didactic curricular activities, scholars will gain the skills needed to lead future work in the science of healthcare delivery.

The program will combine classes and experiential learning with a focus on finding innovative solutions to problems in healthcare delivery. We developed a curriculum which has both core competencies in healthcare delivery science and specific skill emphasis related to a scholar’s project. Self-identification of knowledge gaps informs the tailoring of the curriculum to meaningfully guide participants toward an advanced level of proficiency and healthcare delivery expertise. We present a certificate of completion to each scholar upon fulfillment of all requirements.

Meet Our Scholars

Medical Student Training

During the summer between M1 and M2 year, medical students participate in didactic activities designed to expose them to healthcare delivery science concepts. Guided by work on a mentored project, students grow in their understanding of basic healthcare delivery science concepts and integrate that knowledge into a project presentation.

Student selection begins during Fall of the M1 year. CHDS core faculty nominate trainees with whom they would like to work. Interested students may reach out to CHDS faculty whose research interests align with their own.
