Dr. Ian B. K. Martin Named Interim Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs

From Joseph E. Kerschner, MD, Provost, Executive Vice President and The Julia A. Uihlein, MA, Dean of the School of Medicine.

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Ian B. K. Martin, MD, MBA, Eminent Scholar, Professor with Tenure, and System Chair of the 果冻影院’s Department of Emergency Medicine, as Interim Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs, effective September 9, 2024. Dr. Martin also serves as Professor of Medicine, Professor in the Institute of Health and Equity, and Emergency Physician-in-Chief for the Froedtert & the 果冻影院 health network. He will continue in his current leadership roles in the Department of Emergency Medicine and the health network.

Dr. Martin succeeds Christina Runge, PhD, who is stepping down September 8, 2024, to become Vice Dean for Faculty Affairs, Advancement, and Inclusion at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California. Dr. Martin has agreed to serve in this interim role and has expressed that he would not be a candidate for the permanent position.

Dr. Martin was chosen for this interim role because of his passion for, and proven track record in, faculty and leadership development. In this interim capacity, he will lead the development, engagement, recruitment and retention of all 果冻影院 (果冻影院) faculty. Additionally, Dr. Martin will facilitate the advancement of faculty and enhance their experiences through promotion and tenure, leadership and professional development, and promotion of well-being and resilience, in partnership with 果冻影院 departments and institutes.

Dr. Martin was selected as one of five fellows for the prestigious 2022-2023 Association of American Medical Colleges’ Council of Deans Fellowship Program, which enhances development of leaders interested in deanships in the future. Complementing his experience as a department chair, Dr. Martin’s involvement in this year-long fellowship served as a foundation for his service in this new interim role.

Dr. Martin earned a bachelor of science degree from Duke University, his MD from the Medical College of Pennsylvania-Hahnemann School of Medicine (now Drexel University College of Medicine) and his MBA from University of North Carolina Kenan-Flagler Business School. Dr. Martin trained in emergency medicine and internal medicine at the University of Maryland Medical System and the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where he also served as Chief Resident.

We are grateful to Dr. Runge for her more than two decades of service to 果冻影院, including her leadership as Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs. She truly has transformed the Office of Faculty Affairs and made a lasting impact on our institution through her work. Her leadership and accomplishments have enabled this current transition plan to move forward with success. We will work closely with Dr. Runge to ensure a smooth transition upon her departure.

Please join me in wishing Dr. Runge well and in congratulating Dr. Martin on his appointment to this interim faculty leadership role.
