Computational Modeling Facilities at the Zablocki VA Medical Center
Maintained by the Computational Modeling Group, a team of faculty-led students and staff, the computational modeling facilities at the ZVAMC Laboratories support computational solid modeling using finite element techniques. This team uses existing validated models such as the NHTSA SIMon head/brain model (link), the Global Human Body Models Consortium (GHBMC) human body models (link), and the NHTSA full-vehicle models (link). They have also developed or refined models of the head and neck, and lumbar spine for use in clinical applications, including evaluation of artificial spinal disks and lumbar surgical stabilization procedures. Military applications include an in-house head-neck model with muscles, which is used to evaluate dynamic effects of helmets on male and female soldiers.
