The Gastrointestinal and Liver Pathology Service is a specialized division offering diagnostic evaluation for endoscopic biopsies, endoscopic and surgical resections of the gastrointestinal, hepatic, and pancreatobiliary tracts. The service also provides expertise in medical liver biopsies including liver transplant pathology.

Processing over 12,000 specimens annually, our division diligently reviews cases ranging from benign and pre-neoplastic to neoplastic conditions. We operate a robust consult service for patients seeking second opinions and receive cases from regional community practices. To maintain quality assurance and promote educational growth, we conduct daily peer review conferences and share challenging and intriguing cases.

As a part of the National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer (NAPRC), we adhere to standardized procedures and actively participate in weekly multidisciplinary tumor boards. Our involvement extends to various conferences, including several tumor boards, medical liver conferences and inflammatory bowel disease conferences for the best possible care for the patients.

At the forefront of clinical and translational research, our division collaborates with multiple departments, driving innovations in gastrointestinal, liver, and pancreatobiliary diseases. We are actively engaging in the teaching of pathology residents, rotating medical students, and observers. Additionally, we provides didactic lectures covering various topics related to the GI tract, hepatic, and pancreatobiliary tracts.
