Chest
The fellow spends the majority of his/her time in diagnostic thoracic imaging. An increasing amount of time is spent in cardiac imaging. All thoracic needle biopsies are performed by the Cardiothoracic Imaging Section. Pulmonary imaging experience includes interpretation of chest radiographs, CT, and MRI. The fellow, whether designated as a fellow or an instructor, assumes graded responsibility over the course of the year. A new lung cancer screening program is in place in cooperation with the department of pulmonary medicine, the department of preventive cardiology, and the smoking cessation clinic. Unique programs in hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT Center of Excellence) and an adult cystic fibrosis program enrich the experience.
Cardiac
The cardiac MRI program is closely integrated with cardiology. The program offers hands on advanced training in performing and interpreting cardiac MRs. Fellows gain extensive experience and knowledge throughout the year in basic and advanced applications of CMR in viability, cardiomyopathies, cardiac masses, pre- and post- ablation CMR, and Stress MRI. Joint radiology-cardiology conferences include a weekly case review conference, a monthly joint adult and pediatric CMR conference and a monthly research CMR meeting. Cardiac MRs are performed on 1. 5T and 3T Siemens scanner. The images are post processed and interpreted on dedicated CVI42 software.
In the cardiac CT program, fellows learn advanced cardiac CTA techniques including protocolling, coronary artery tracking and CTA interpretation. The fellow will be eligible for ACR Cardiac CT certification exam at the end of the year. There is also a large adult congenital heart disease program at ӰԺ. Cardiac CT and Coronary CTAs are performed on the latest state-of-art 256-slice “Revolution” GE scanners and advanced GE work stations.
