Laboratory Chemical Safety Training

Course Description
Laboratory Chemical Safety Training is required by the OSHA for anyone who meets one or more of the following criteria: Works part-time or full-time in a laboratory, has clinical duties AND also works in a laboratory, is a student in a laboratory, or teaches a laboratory course involving chemical use. Any individuals who have the potential for occupational exposure to chemicals in a laboratory setting must complete this training every three years. Issues covered in the training module include classes and characteristics of hazardous chemicals, risk mitigation strategies, proper disposal of hazardous wastes, and emergency response procedures.

Bloodborne Pathogens (BBP) for Researchers

Course Description
This training is required by OSHA for employees who may be occupationally exposed to human blood and other potentially infectious human and/or non-human primate source materials (e.g. unfixed tissues, cells, fluids). The course must be renewed annually.

Recombinant DNA (rDNA) for Researchers

Course Description
This training is required when conducting work with recombinant or synthetic nucleic acid molecules, including but not limited to viral vectors, recombinant cells or tissues, and synthetic oligonucleotides. Topics include NIH regulatory requirements, experiments covered by the NIH Guidelines, biosafety considerations, and roles and responsibilities of those conducting recombinant work. The course must be renewed every three years.

Formaldehyde Training

Course Description
This course is required whenever there is a potential exposure over 0.1 ppm as a Time-Weighted Average (TWA) over an 8-hour day. Required for pathology and anatomy employees. Recommended for any employee working periodically with formaldehyde.

Dual Use Research of Concern (DURC)

Course Description
This training covers information contained within the . Training is required when the institution evaluates and confirms DURC potential in research that has the potential to be misapplied to pose significant threats to public health and safety, agriculture, the environment, or national security.

Biosafety Level 3 (BSL3) Training

In-Person Training Only
This training is required when working with biological agents that are associated with serious or lethal human disease through the inhalation route of exposure. Work must be conducted in the BSL3 Biocontainment Facility. The course must be renewed annually. Contact EHS to register for training.
