About the ӰԺ STAR Center

We are dedicated to providing a venue in which to host courses, workshops, and a variety of other events that provide practical hands on clinical experiences for all users including medical students, residents as well as other healthcare professionals. Many of these events can incorporate the use of standardized patients and simulators to best achieve a scenario that imitates real life clinical experience while providing a safe and controlled environment for all users.

Our staff is dedicated to provide the best simulation experiences possible and to continually evaluate and implement new methodologies and technologies.

Who are our current users?
Our current users include both internal and external students, residents, fellows, faculty and staff.

What types of usage are there?
We are able to host CME course work, disaster training sessions, patient safety training, medical error prevention training or remediation, healthcare training across disciplines, team rapid response simulations and more. Please feel free to contact our staff in the event that you would like to discuss creating an event. Our staff is very knowledgeable in development and organization of events and they are always willing to assist as requested.

What are the different types of Simulations?
The different types of simulation that we have here in the STAR Center include high-fidelity physiological mannequins, Virtual Reality simulators, birthing simulators, heart and lung sound simulators, and various task trainers.

What's a Standardized Patient?
A Standardized Patient is a person that portrays a realistic case for the medical students to interact with as if they were in an actual practicing medical situation. This helps the student practice their history taking, physical exam, and communication skills.

From Froedtert/Children's

From Froedtert/Children's

  • From Froedtert go through Children’s Wisconsin.
  • A connector hallway leads from Children’s Wisconsin 2nd floor through the MACC building to 3rd floor of the Medical Education Building (MEB). The hallway enters the
  • MEB near the library.
  • Turn left.
  • Take the stairs down one floor (to the 2nd floor). Turn left upon exiting the stairwell.
  • Turn right at the intersection of the student lounge.
  • Turn left at the next intersection. The main entrance to the STAR Center is on your left, #M2870.

Directions for an elevator:

  • From Froedtert go through Children’s Wisconsin.
  • A connector hallway leads from Children’s Wisconsin 2nd floor through the MACC building to 3rd floor of the Medical Education Building (MEB). The hallway enters the MEB near the library.
  • Turn left and walk to the next intersection.
  • Turn left again and go past the restrooms and the lounge area.
  • Elevators will be on your left. Go to the 2nd floor.
  • When you leave the elevator, turn right and walk through the student lounge area.
  • Turn left at the intersection. The main entrance to the STAR Center is on your left, #M2870.
From Off Campus

From Off Campus

  • Enter ӰԺ main building from either the main front entrance or the entrance on the north side.
  • Once in the building, follow the hallway that is to the right of the main lobby Information Desk.
  • Walk past the bookstore to the staircase on your right.
  • Go to the 2nd floor and turn right.
  • Turn right at the next intersection.
  • The main entrance to the STAR Center is on your left, #M2870.

Directions for an elevator:

  • Enter ӰԺ main building from either the main front entrance or the entrance on the north side.
  • Take the elevator in the main lobby to the 2nd floor.
  • Exit the elevator to the left and then turn right down the hallway.
  • Turn right at the next intersection and continue past the student lounge area.
