ӰԺ Division of Pediatric Surgery Research
Children’s Wisconsin General and Thoracic Surgery is a national leader in patient care, driven by a commitment to researching the best diagnostic tools and therapies possible for each patient. Research represents a cornerstone of our practice, involving studies ranging from better identification of complex diseases to creating efficiency and exceptional patient experience in everyday treatments.
Our team uses the best available technology to track data and apply that information to making our care better. Children's was a pioneering force in the development of the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program, and continues to be an active and productive member of the national registry of pediatric surgical data. Our surgeons were also key in starting the Midwest Pediatric Surgical Consortium, a group of academic medical centers whose mission is to advance surgical care for children and their families in the Midwest. Children's had the honor of successfully hosting the first study to come from the Midwest Pediatric Surgical Consortium, which helped to better understand Tracheoesophageal Fistula and Esophageal Atresia. Experts from our team have also worked with other surgeons around the world to develop a registry of patients with colorectal disease, known as the Pediatric Colorectal and Pelvic Learning Consortium. Here at home, we have a long-standing Clinical Outcomes Registry that follows patients with congenital surgical diseases throughout their childhood to better understand how their health and care impacts their quality of life.
Producing quality information allows us the ability to learn and do even more to help our patients. Research sponsored by organizations like the National Institutes of Health and the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (among others) give our experts the resources they need to make care better every day. Our team is passionate about research and making sure that children are at the heart of everything we do.
