Diversity Summer Health-Related Research Education Program (DSHREP)
DSHREP is a competitive program designed to provide research opportunities for undergraduate students from backgrounds that are historically underrepresented in biomedical science, including individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, underrepresented cultural and ethnic groups, and individuals with disabilities.

DSHREP Program Dates, Application Requirements and Procedure
Before you start your application
You will need to request an official transcript. Transcripts should be mailed directly to the Office of Student Inclusion and Diversity using the address provided under the contact information. Before beginning your application, you will need the following information about your recommenders: Name, Title, Email Address and Phone Number.
The application process should take about half an hour, please be sure to allot ample time to complete the form without interruption. Once you begin the application, it is recommended that you complete it in its entirety.
How do I qualify?
Students must demonstrate a serious interest in a medical or allied health career and meet the following criteria:
- 3.4 Undergraduate Science and Math GPA Required
- Completion of at least one year of college (three courses per academic term)
- Open to students at all undergraduate institutions
Eligibility
We recognize that there are a myriad of factors that may pose unique challenges to every individual. In defining these groups, we identify populations where there is a disconnect between the group’s representation and perspectives in the educational environment and current workforce compared to the general population. To advance health equity, more focused and sustained outreach and recruitment efforts exist for individuals in these groups who may not have equal access to resources to reach biomedical careers. High school students from the Milwaukee metro region in the following populations are strongly encouraged to apply:
- African American
- Mexican American
- Puerto Rican
- Native American
- Hmong American
- LGBTQIA+
- Individuals from Disadvantaged Backgrounds

Application:
- Opens Late October
- Closes: February 1
Program Dates:
- May 27 (move-in)
- May 28 – May 30 (Orientation)
- June 2 (day one in lab)
- August 1 (final day)
Requirements and procedure
Complete online application. Submit official college transcript in sealed envelope via US mail to:

Submit two (2) Science-related electronic recommendations. You will receive an email link to be forwarded to your recommenders to complete the process. Mailed recommendations are not accepted.
Be available for the entire duration of the 10-week program. Commitment is an estimated 40 hours per week.
