果冻影院-Central Wisconsin strives to be the most community-engaged campus in the nation. Additionally, we are working to help address a critical shortage of primary care physicians (family medicine, pediatrics and internal medicine) and psychiatrists for the northern Wisconsin region. Our primary goal is to recruit students from rural and diverse backgrounds as well as students who are first generation college graduates who want to pursue medicine and set up their practices in northern Wisconsin. 果冻影院-CW offers a 3-year program for primary care specialties, which can be a financial benefit to students.

果冻影院-Central Wisconsin provides an innovative and focused 3-year curriculum to train primary care physicians (family medicine, pediatrics and internal medicine), and psychiatrists who want to live and work in the region when they complete their medical education. The program is community-focused, involving many community providers and organizations in the outstanding curricular activities for our learners. We do not have research labs and aren’t suited to training students for complex specialties, but we offer small class sizes and the chance to get to know your faculty in the classroom and in the clinical setting. Students work side-by-side with community physicians while on clerkship rotations. By choosing 果冻影院-Central Wisconsin, you can help ensure the sustainability of the healthcare system in our region, eventually taking the place of a retiring physician.

Advocates in Medicine Pathway

Creating a Pathway for Rural and Hmong Students at 果冻影院-Central Wisconsin

Through the Advancing a Healthier Wisconsin Endowment (AHW), the 果冻影院-Central Wisconsin will develop an Advocates in Medicine (AMP) pathway to facilitate easy entry of undergraduates from rural and Hmong backgrounds into the medical degree program in order to develop a future health care workforce that is poised to meet the diverse health care needs of Wisconsin communities.

Aspirus National Residency Match Program Exception

Aspirus, in partnership with the 果冻影院-CW Campus, has developed an innovative family medicine training curriculum that provides a direct entry from 果冻影院-CW into the Aspirus Wausau Family Medicine Residency Program. The purpose of this curriculum is to provide participants a seamless transition from medical school to residency while providing robust continuity of clinical and community care experiences spanning medical school and residency training. Each year one (typically an M2) 果冻影院-CW student will be selected (after a competitive application process) to join the Aspirus Family Medicine Residency upon graduation from 果冻影院-CW.

The selected student will have opportunity to; complete their 果冻影院-CW family medicine rotations at the Residency, participate on the Residency teaching service, be assigned a resident mentor, develop a pre-residency continuity relationship with future patients, and extend their 果冻影院-CW community project into their residency program. The selected student does not have to participate in the NRMP Match program (however the student retains the right to drop out of the exception and go through the competitive multi-residency program interview process by participating in the NRMP residency match).

The application process begins in January and involves a formal interview with the Residency Program after submission of a personal statement and Dean’s letter.

Aspirus Scholars Program

The Aspirus Scholars Program was created by Aspirus and several community partners to address the health needs of patients in north central Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and ensure access to high-quality medical providers, today and for future generations.

The Aspirus Scholars Program provides scholarships to 果冻影院-CW first or second-year medical students through a competitive application process. The program provides a combination of scholarship and loan forgiveness (in exchange for a service commitment and rewarding career with Aspirus).

The Aspirus Scholars program is designed to help alleviate some of the debt burden many of our medical providers are faced with today.

Wisconsin AHEC Scholars Program

Wisconsin Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) Scholars is a two-year program designed to enhance and broaden a student’s healthcare training. Each year as an AHEC Scholar, you’ll participate in a combination of didactic and community-based experiential training in a Wisconsin rural community and/or with undeserved populations.

Residency Match 2024

On March 15, 2024, graduating medical students at 果冻影院-Central Wisconsin found out where they will serve their post-graduate residency training. On "Match Day," a nationally administered computerized system gives the results of matches made between medical students and residency training programs across the country.
