ӰԺ Pediatric Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine Research

The Division of Pediatric Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine participates in local, regional, and national clinical research initiatives, including clinical trials, investigator-initiated studies, observational and translational research. The Pediatric Cystic Fibrosis Center has been designated as a Therapeutic Development Network (TDN) site by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation since 2009. TDN centers specialize in conducting clinical trials to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of new CF therapies. The program has participated in a variety of pivotal, multi-center, Phase II-IV clinical trials for novel treatments, including CFTR modulators and other CF therapies. The Tracheostomy and Home Ventilator Program completed a single-center, randomized clinical trial measuring the outcomes of high- and low-fidelity simulation training for caregivers taking home a child on a ventilator, which is now the standard of care for our program. The program is a member of the Global Tracheostomy Collaborative and is a designated Passy Muir Center of Excellence. The Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD) program has several research and quality-improvement publications addressing ways to safely decrease length of home therapies (e.g., home oxygen, diuretics) without compromising patient care. The program is a member of the national BPD Collaborative.
